"Blue skin. Wouldn't that be amazing? I mean, how could you not want blue skin?"- Alex Box
And like everything else, she'll make it look beautiful. Alex Box is such an inspiration. She is an extraordinary artist in my opinion.
"I am an artist who works with make-up"- Alex Box
Alex is known for pushing and blurring the boundaries between art and technology. She is also known as former creative director and co-founder of the cult cosmetics line, Illamasqua.
Alex grew up in a small village where "she was the only goth in the village". It was that when she began to push the boundaries, dyeing her hair and painting fake beauty spots on her cheeks at a very young age. She than moved to London to study fine art at Chelsea College of Art. Her main focus was the relationship between bodies and the environment. She made installations and experimented with prosthetics, working part-time in a make-up shop to fund her artistic materials. As a make-up artist she went on to explore fusing art, science and nature.
Having trained as a fine artist, she sees no difference between what she does now- fashion shoots, commercial campaigns and catwalk- and what she did before.
As a make-up artist, she tends to attract like min den people in the industry. Alex counts herself lucky to be "always working among the pioneers of image making." She works with designers such as Gareth Pugh, Karl Lagerfeld, Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, Chanel and Issey Miyako.
Alex is also a regular contributor to Vogue, Numéro, i-D, Dazed, Confused, AnOther Magazine and V.
With her artistry and her way of stretching our imaginations, she will definitely leave a mark on our culture of image.

"My work has always been about embracing new formats and emerging technology. Through my marriage of art and science there is an endless landscape of possibilities."- says Alex

"I got to do some really weird and wonderful things there"-she says. "It honed my feeling about how you can actually change and manipulate the face- and it was just like my painting, only in this case the canvas was alive."

"I just love it"-she says. "All I want to do is keep feeding my head and keep doing what I'm doing, because whether it's the straightest brief or the craziest thing, it's constantly amazing."
