Inspirational make-up artists Part 2

Alex Box

1.
Alex Box isn't your average make-up artist. Alex Box does not do smokey eyes and bronzer. She does green lips, black polka dots and white curly eyebrows. She's currently working on developing a line of cosmetics that includes blue foundation for the skin.

"Blue skin. Wouldn't that be amazing? I mean, how could you not want blue skin?"- Alex Box

And like everything else, she'll make it look beautiful. Alex Box is such an inspiration. She is an extraordinary artist in my opinion.

"I am an artist who works with make-up"- Alex Box

Alex is known for pushing and blurring the boundaries between art and technology. She is also known as former creative director and co-founder of the cult cosmetics line, Illamasqua.

"My work has always been about embracing new formats and emerging technology. Through my marriage of art and science there is an endless landscape of possibilities."- says Alex

Alex grew up in a small village where "she was the only goth in the village". It was that when she began to push the boundaries, dyeing her hair and painting fake beauty spots on her cheeks at a very young age. She than moved to London to study fine art at Chelsea College of Art. Her main focus was the relationship between bodies and the environment. She made installations and experimented with prosthetics, working part-time in a make-up shop to fund her artistic materials. As a make-up artist she went on to explore fusing art, science and nature.

"I got to do some really weird and wonderful things there"-she says. "It honed my feeling about how you can actually change and manipulate the face- and it was just like my painting, only in this case the canvas was alive."

Having trained as a fine artist, she sees no difference between what she does now- fashion shoots, commercial campaigns and catwalk- and what she did before.
As a make-up artist, she tends to attract like min den people in the industry. Alex counts herself lucky to be "always working among the pioneers of image making." She works with designers such as Gareth Pugh, Karl Lagerfeld, Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, Chanel and Issey Miyako.
Alex is also a regular contributor to Vogue, Numéro, i-D, Dazed, Confused, AnOther Magazine and V.
With her artistry and her way of stretching our imaginations, she will definitely leave a mark on our culture of image.

"I just love it"-she says. "All I want to do is keep feeding my head and keep doing what I'm doing, because whether it's the straightest brief or the craziest thing, it's constantly amazing."

Inspirational Make-Up Artists

Lisa Eldridge

Biography:

Lisa Eldridge is a make-up artist. Born in 1974, she was raised in New-Zealand and Liverpool, England. She had her first big break when she was booked by ELLE Magazine to work with model Cindy Crawford. In 1998, Eldridge teamed up with Japanese make-up and skincare company Shiseido, who asked her to create a brand new make-up line for the Asian market.
Designed and developed with Shiseido, Lisa collaborated on everything from shade and texture formulation, to packaging and new product development.

"The experience of working on my own make-up line really completed the circle of my career, and has lead me to fully understand make-up from the inside out having applied it, designed it and learnt how it is made and sold," says Lisa.

From 2003-2013, Lisa was Creative Director for Boots No7, where she was responsible for developing, re-designing and re-launching the brand. Since June 2011, she has worked with Chanel to create over 40 unique videos per year for their site, Chanel.com. Lisa is the Global Creative Director of Lancôme since 6 January 2015.

Career:
At the age of six, her passion for make-up was ignited when she discovered a box of her mother's vintage Mary Quant and Coty make-up dating back to the 1960s at her grandmother's house. Her interest deepened when she was given a book on stage make-up as a teenager, and it was then that she decided to pursue a career in make-up artistry.
Following a move to London, Eldridge took a course in photographic make-up artistry and began building her portfolio and eventually signing with a make-up agency. She had her first break when she was booked by ELLE Magazine to work with Cindy Crawford. Cindy and Lisa hit it off, and worked together on several more shoots. From here, Eldridge quickly built up her reputation.

With over 20 years of experience, Lisa Eldridge is one of the most highly regarded make-up artists on the international beauty and fashion circuits. Whether she's called upon to create her signature look, best described as fresh and flawless or to work her magic for the catwalk or on editorial shoots, her understated, modern approach to beauty has made her indispensable to designers, magazine editors, art directors and celebrities alike. Through her online make-up tutorials, and her role as resident on-screen beauty expert for three seasons of Channel 4's successful series 'Ten Years Younger' Lisa has become one of the most recognised faces in the beauty industry, both in the UK and internationally.

She has been based in Paris, New York, Los Angeles, travels regularly for photo shoots, fashion shows and advertising campaigns. Her work appears on the pages of the world's leading fashion magazines including British, Italian, French, Chinese and Japanese Vogue, LOVE Magazine, Allure, Glamour, ELLE, Numero, Harper's Bazaar, Pop, i-D and Lula for covers, fashion, beauty and celebrity shoots. She has worked with the world's leading photographers including Tim Walker, Mert and Marcus, Cuneyt Akeroglu, Regan Cameron, Sølve Sundsbø, Rankin, Paolo Roversi, David Sims, Mario Testino, Patrick Demarchelier and Thomas Schenk.
Aside from her editorial assignments, Lisa collaborates regularly with fashion houses and beauty brads on their international advertising campaigns and runway shows. These include Lancôme, Chloe, Alberta Ferretti, Prada, Donna Karan, Moschino, Yohji Yamamoto, and Pucci. Lisa was recently named by The Business of Fashion as one of the top people 'Shaping The Global Fashion Industry' in their Fashion 500 list for 2013.
The list of celebrities she has made-up includes the world's most glamorous women including Kate Winslet, Katy Perry, Keira Knightley, Emma Watson, Eva Green, Cameron Diaz, Amanda Seyfried, Kate Moss, Helena Christensen, Cate Blanchet, Demi Moore and Salma Hayek.

In February 2010, Lisa launched her website and was one of the first highly-succesful professional make-up artists to create online make-up tutorials for her site and YouTube. Her videos feature a professional studio white background and lighting. Her website has become one of the go-to sites for make-up tutorials, beauty advice and insider knowledge.

Some examples of Lisa's work:

"Lisa is a true women's woman who as well as making up A'List actresses, princesses and supermodels, empowers and gives confidence to women of all ages, class and race all over the world every day"- Kelsey Grammer

While I was browsing on the internet, I've come across this very useful video. In the video Lisa talks about the different fields of the make-up industry and gives us a few very inspirational tips on how to start a career in make-up artistry.

Lisa Eldridge is such a loveable person, so simple yet so inspiring in my opinion.
