Inspirational hair-stylists

Guido Palau

1.
Guido Palau (often referred to by his first name only) is a British-born hair stylist whose work is known as a leading trend setter in the fashion industry. Guido is the creative consultant for Redken since 2005.
His work is a great source of inspiration, and is original, and creative. He is one of the world's most innovative and respected hair stylists. His amazing technical skills have been a source of inspiration to me over the years.

Guido has made his mark on the world of fashion by taking traditional styles and giving them a rebellious twist. His creativity is highly demanded by designers and editors; and his collaborations with the world's most famous and creative photographers such as Steven Meisel and David Sims have resulted in some of fashion's most iconic images.

Guido was born in Dorset, England in an Anglo-Spanish family. His father was Spanish and his Mother was English. After high school, he started working in a Vidal Sassoon salon, however his career in this salon was not long lived.

"One day I filled the appointment sheet with famous names, like Barbara Streisand, just for fun. I got found out and was sacked."- Guido

"They told me I'd never make it as a hairdresser"- Guido

After working in numerous hair salons, he realised that his passion was session hair styling for photo shoots and fashion shows.
An early turning point in his career was when he styled George Michael's Freedom! '90 music video, which featured supermodels such as Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Tatjana Patitz and Cindy Crawford. Guido is considered one of the major forces behind the grunge movement of the mid 90's, which is a look defined by its bare skin, smudged eyes and bed-head hair. At the same time, in the early 90's,  as the grunge movement was about to take hold, Guido began working with photographer David Sims. Once these images started appearing in The Face magazine, they grabbed the attention of designer Calvin Klein. Guido was soon asked by Calvin Klein to work on his autumn 1994 fashion show. This brought global attention to Guido, and more high-end work followed, such as working on the 1996 Versace campaign.

His work is regularly featured in Italian, French, British and American fashion magazines like Vogue, Love, V, and W Magazine. Each season he creates the hair look for more than 30 fashion shows for fashion houses, including: Prada, Balenciaga, Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Versace, Louis Vuitton, Yves Saint Laurent, Ralph Lauren and Alexander McQueen.

His first book, Heads: Hair by Guido, was published in 2000 and features a decade of his signature work.
In 2009, he was included on the list of 25 Most Powerful People in the Fashion Industry.
